Planting a Sunflower House with a Twist

Despite a slightly rainy start, our Garden Club at Kumano Shindo had a wonderful first day. The energy was high as we embarked on our first exciting project: building a sunflower house. This isn't just any garden project—it's a unique and imaginative way to create a cozy, natural space using the towering beauty of sunflowers. However, instead of using traditional sunflowers, we opted for something a little different: sunchokes.

These plants, like sunflowers, can reach impressive heights of two to three meters. As they grow, they naturally come together to form a small, enchanting house—a perfect spot to relax and enjoy nature. The best part? Sunchokes are not only tall and beautiful, but they also produce edible tubers, adding an extra layer of sustainability and usefulness to our project.

We’re excited to see how this sunflower house will develop and to create a lovely space for everyone to enjoy. Stay tuned for more updates from our Garden Club at Kumano Shindo, where we continue to blend creativity, community, and sustainability in every project.
