Kumano Shindo Featured in Chamber Magazine: Expanding Global and Community Projects

Updated: Nov 4

We're excited to share that Kumano Shindo was featured in the "New Member Introduction" section of the August 2024 issue of the Kumano Chamber of Commerce magazine! The full issue can be downloaded here.

Kumano Shindo collaborates with educators and creators worldwide to provide content production for universities and corporations. Our projects include creating videos with Japanese and English subtitles and promoting Kumano products internationally.

Since last year, we have been developing a project in Idocho, Kumano City, called "Community School Sotononono." Alongside our "Edible Forest" agroforestry initiative adjacent to the school, we aim to provide children with a place and curriculum to learn about nature and foreign languages.

The photo on the left shows a "Lunch n' Learn" talk given by Kumano Shindo representative director, Adam Lobel, at Workshop/APD, a renowned architectural firm in New York City, in August 2023. The presentation focused on Kumano wood manufactured by nojimoku, a third-generation timber mill. The photo on the right captures the renovation in progress at Community School Sotononono, featuring students from Kindai University's Sano Kozue Housing Planning Laboratory, our local partner Yoshinari Nozi from nojimoku, Byron Nagy from Yokomura Eco-Lodge & Kasamatsu Farms, Nonaka Akinobu from Nonaka Construction in Shingu, and architects Masaharu Tada and Ayane Abe from td-Atelier, who are overseeing the overall project design and management.

You can learn more about our projects through a recorded version of the aforementioned Lunch n' Learn session: youtu.be/m6BlKE4EScQ.

We are grateful for your continued support and look forward to further strengthening our community and international ties! #kumano #kinan #kii
