We’re back with the latest update on the Kumano Shindo Innovation Center project!
As we continue transforming a 100-year-old farmhouse in the heart of Kumano City into a world-class environmental education center, we are excited to share the progress we've made in recent weeks.
On July 20 and 21, 2023, our dedicated team, led by architect Dr. Masaharu Tada of td-Atelier, along with construction professionals from Nonaka Kōmuten based in Shingu, Wakayama, and enthusiastic students from Kindai University's Kozue Sano Housing Planning Laboratory, worked meticulously to replace the exterior walls and put up navy blue corrugated sheets on several sections of the walls. These corrugated sheets were cut with precision, using sheet metal scissors, to perfectly match the shape of the roof purlin and foundation stone.
The boards were marked with chalk along the line of the furring strips, ensuring accuracy in alignment. They counted the number of peaks, ensuring uniformity throughout the exterior. Then they hammered in the nails, securing the corrugated plates with utmost care and precision. The process may seem simple, but it is the attention to detail that truly makes a difference in achieving a flawless finish.
Through this, the team learned that each step, no matter how simple it may seem, contributes to a remarkable outcome that will transform this historic building into a vibrant hub of innovation and creativity.
